We are again Carbon Neutral

Carbon Neutral partnership logoYorkshire Building Society is continually looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment through energy conservation and recycling. On the 3 September 2008 we achieved full carbon neutral status again, accredited by the CarbonNeutral Company, by offsetting every tonne of CO2 emitted and reducing the same volume somewhere else in the world.

Our Environmental Objectives 

  • Reduce energy consumption per sq metre of office floor space by 10% by 2010.
  • Reduce CO2 produced from energy consumption by 50% by 2010.
  • Reduce CO2 produced from business travel by 10% by 2010.
  • Reduce amount of waste being sent to landfill from main head office buildings by 25% by 2010.
  • Purchase energy from high efficiency or renewable sources.
  • Explore energy efficiency improvements in buildings.
  • Develop and roll out energy awareness programme.
  • Support for carbon reduction projects across the world.
