We are now Carbon Neutral

Yorkshire Building Society is continually looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment through energy conservation and recycling. On the 1st of June we achieved full carbon neutral status, accredited by the CarbonNeutral Company, by offsetting every tonne of CO2 emitted and reducing the same volume somewhere else in the world.

Our Environmental Objectives 

• Reduce energy consumption per sq metre of office floor space by 10% by 2010.
• Reduce CO2 produced from energy consumption by 50% by 2010.
• Reduce CO2 produced from business travel by 10% by 2010.
• Reduce amount of waste being sent to landfill from main head office buildings by 25% by 2010.
• Purchase energy from high efficiency or renewable sources.
• Undertake full energy audits at main head office buildings
• Work with the Carbon Trust to develop a robust carbon management programme.
• Explore energy efficiency improvements in buildings.
• Develop and roll out energy awareness programme.
• Support for carbon reduction projects across the world.
