Summer Campaign
A Summer Campaign donation provides more toys and games for SHARE's Saturday Fun Club where children aged 4-12 years old with special needs can join in activities to enhance their social and learning skills and HAVE FUN! |
As the Foundation is largely funded by Society members who participate in the innovative Small Change Big Difference Scheme, we find that the Summer Campaign is an ideal way in which the Society's members can be involved in helping the Trustees decide which charities to support.
In 2007 more 770 local good causes and charities were nominated and subsequently benefited from a donation. The total amount donated was over £43,000.
National Appeal
Each year the Yorkshire Building Society and the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation holds a national Appeal for a type of charity(ies) which is chosen by staff and members of the Society. The Society's staff, both at Head Office and throughout the branch and agency network are involved in fundraising activities for the cause, including individually organised events held at a local level, such as tombolas, raffles and book sales.Seven charities have received help so far through the efforts of the Society's staff and members, the Foundation and the general public:
The 2006 National Appeal raised £90,000 to help CLIC Sargent who are the UK's leading cancer charity for children, providing help and support for children/young people with cancer and their families.
The appeal was supported by well-known actress, Gaynor Faye.
Other Charities who have received our help:
The Bury branch of the Yorkshire Building Society, with the support of the Foundation, raised funds to provide a new goat shed for Pimhole Community Farm. The inner-city based community project gives children in the local area the opportunity to see animals up close and have a hands on experience of rural life, which they may otherwise not have the chance to.

Healthy Roots Project - Middlefield Community Gardens Play Area - a charity supporting children based in the Middlefield area of Aberdeen, received a boost to their fundraising activities following a contribution from the Charitable Foundation.
