Home insurance - general exclusions
These general exclusions apply to all household insurance policies unless otherwise indicated:
- The first £100 of each incident except:
- Subsidence claims, on which the first £1,000 is excluded.
- Legal liability claims.
- Where you have agreed to take on an additional voluntary excess in addition to the standard £100 policy excess.
- Loss or damage to gates, hedges or fences by storms.
- Where your home is unoccupied or unfurnished for more than 60 consecutive days (30 days for home insurance):
- loss or damage by theft, escape of water or oil, civil disturbance.
- accidental breakage of fixed glass and sanitary fixtures.
- damage caused by internal stress to fixed water pipes and tanks due to freezing.
- Where your home is unoccupied and unfurnished for more than 30 consecutive days:
- loss or damage by smoke, fire and explosion.
- War risks
- Sonic bangs
- Pollution and contamination.
- Radioactive contamination.
- Riot or civil commotion outside the United Kingdom.
- Seizure or confiscation of your property by customs or other authorities (Home Insurance only).
- Wilful acts.
- Diminution in value following repair/replacement.
- Wear and tear, depreciation and normal deterioration.
- Loss or damage arising from, or consisting of, the failure (or inability) of any equipment (or any computer program) to recognise (correctly interpret or process) any date as to the true or correct date, or to continue to function correctly beyond that date. This shall not exclude any resulting loss or damage otherwise insured by this policy.
