You Choose Home Insurance

Only pay for the cover you need

When it comes to buildings and contents insurance, one size doesn't always fit all. That's why we've developed our Home Insurance cover – 'You Choose'.

You only pay for the home insurance cover you need.

How does You Choose work?

You are more in control of how much cover you take and, consequently, how much you pay for it.

For too long home insurance has been sold as a 'standard package' that doesn't take into account differing needs and lifestyles. For example, many home insurance policies include cover for gardens but what if you live in an apartment? Why pay for cover for something you don't even have?

That's where You Choose Home Insurance comes in.

1. Core Cover

With You Choose Home Insurance, the first step is to decide on the type of Core Cover you need.

There's a choice of three cover options, all at an extremely competitive price:

  • Core Buildings only
  • Core Contents only
  • Combined Core Building & Contents

2. Extra Cover Options

Once you've decided on the Core Cover, add your choice of Extra Cover Options. There are a number of these, depending on your needs. You may find that not all of the Extra Cover Options will suit your circumstances. You can design your policy around you and your family's lifestyle.

The Extra Cover options are:

  • Technology and Entertainment
  • Personal Items
  • Garden
  • Accidental Damage
  • Home Emergency
  • Legal Expenses

Note: Exclusions and limitations will apply to all Extra Cover Options you take. You can get full details about what's covered and what's not, including any limits that apply, when you get a quote.

Core cover

    • The Core Buildings Only option provides £400,000 worth of cover as standard.
    • It covers the structure of your home and would pay out to repair or rebuild your home if damaged, for example, by a fire, flood or falling tree.
    • The Core Contents Only option provides £50,000 of cover as standard.
    • It protects the things you own in your home. For example, if you were burgled and items were taken or you suffered a fire in your home, your Core Contents insurance would pay out to help replace your lost or damaged contents.
    • It covers items such as furniture, carpets, curtains and free-standing white goods – for example, fridges, cookers and dishwashers.

Note: Core Contents cover does not cover items that are included in the Extra Cover Options for example, jewellery or televisions.

  1. This Core option combines all elements of Core Buildings Only and Core Contents Only.

There's more cover than you might expect

Depending on the Core Cover Option you choose, these benefits are included at no extra cost:

  • 'New for old' cover on items that are stolen or damaged.
  • Cover for replacement locks and keys if stolen, lost or damaged.
  • Contents cover automatically increases by £3,000 for items purchased for religious festivals, such as Christmas presents.
  • Increase in cover for wedding gifts when you get married.
  • Financial help if your home cannot be lived in, for example after a fire or flood.

Please note: there are limitations and exclusions with all home insurance policies. Further details are available when you get a quote.
