How to apply for a mortgage

You can apply for a mortgage online, in a branch or over the phone. Please note that for some mortgage products you can only apply through a branch. Details of our products and how you can apply for them are shown in our Current Mortgage Range section.

Online Applications

Step 1 - Approval in Principle

Obtaining a quick lending decision - also known as Approval in Principle - takes approximately 10 minutes.

Approval in Principle means that your application has undergone an underwriting process, based on the information you provided, and indicates that subject to this information being verified and property approved, your application is successful.

Approval in Principle involves the Society carrying out a credit check on you. You can save the lending decision, and either proceed to Step 2 (Full Mortgage Application) or complete your application later.

Step 2 - Full Mortgage Application

If you have found a property that you wish to buy and your offer has been accepted, you are in a position to apply for a mortgage in full. This stage of the application process will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete.
