1 year e-Bond - Product terms

The following information gives you more details about the e-Bond.

 

Eligibility

The e-Bond is available to UK residents only . It is available as a single or joint account to customers 16 years of age and over.


Deposits

Your initial deposit can be made by cheque or debit card (providing your identity can be verified electronically during the online application process).
Additional deposits must be transfers, either from another bank or building society account, e.g. by debit card, standing order, or another account held with the Yorkshire.

Please note: some banks or building societies may charge you for electronic transfers.

We do not accept Postal Orders.


How much you can save

You can save as little as £100 or as much as £500,000.

You can make additional deposits to your Bond at any point until 31 July 2008, subject to the overall savings limit of £500,000.

Interest

Interest rates are fixed until 31 July 2009.

Annual interest is payable on 31 July 2009 and may be added to the account or transferred to another account.

Monthly interest is payable on the last day of the month and must be transferred to another account.


Withdrawals and Early Closures

No withdrawals are permitted during the term of the e-Bond.

Early closure is permitted after the account has been open for 6 months but will be subject to 90 days loss of interest on the closing balance. Early closures cannot be requested online and must be made in writing to Savings Service, Yorkshire Building Society, Yorkshire House, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD5 8LJ.


On Maturity

On 1 August 2009 your balance will be automatically transferred into a YBS instant access internet account. You may have the option to transfer the balance into another fixed rate product without the need to re-apply.


Keeping track of your account

You will be able to check your balance and view deposit transactions on your account online whenever you wish. We will advise you of the forthcoming product maturity, and generally communicate with you, via email. It is very important that you notify us if your email address changes.

Changing your details

You can change your contact details (postal address, email and telephone) when you are logged in.  To change your name you will need to write, enclosing proof of the change, to Savings Service, Yorkshire Building Society, Yorkshire House, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD5 8LJ.

If we cannot come to a resolution to your satisfaction, you may have the right to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service, of which we are a member.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme

Yorkshire Building Society is a participant in the Financial Services Compensation Scheme established under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Payments under the scheme are limited to 100% of an investor’s total shares and/or deposits in a society, up to a maximum amount of £35,000. Most investors are covered, including individuals and small firms. Although most shares and deposits are denominated in Sterling, all other currencies are covered. Further details on the scheme and on the implications of having your savings and mortgage with the same provider, are available on our factsheet ‘the financial services compensation scheme for deposit taking activities’. We also subscribe to the Banking Code, a copy of which is available on request. Yorkshire Building Society will communicate with you in English.
