Savings

Regular Saver - more detail

Opening an account

Regular Saver is simple to open and operate.  When your account is open, all you need to do is make sure you pay money in on a regular basis.

You can choose to make your regular payments by cheque or cash at any of our branches or agencies, or via the internet. Alternatively you might want to set up a standing order or bill payment, for which you will need our banking details.

A bonus rate of interest

Interest is paid on the anniversary of your account each year. There are two elements to the interest rate, a basic rate and a bonus rate payable if the conditions attaching to the account are satisfied. Both elements are variable but the bonus rate is guaranteed not to fall below its current level unless the Bank of England's base rate falls below 3%.

How much do I need to save?

Save between £10 and £500 per month. If you want to qualify for the bonus rate of interest you must save in at least 11 out of the 12 months in an account year and make no more than one part withdrawal. The maximum permitted total balance for the account is £20,000. There are many ways you may want to put money into your account, choose from:

  • By standing order from your bank account
  • Paying in cash or a cheque at any of our branches or agencies.

Online services

You have the option to manage your account online. For example, you can check your balance, transfer money to another account or view your tax and interest rate details. Find out more about what you can do online or take a look at our online savings demo. To take advantage of this facility, you will need to register for online services once you have opened the account.

Withdrawing money

You can have one part withdrawal in each year of the account without affecting your bonus. You may also have up to two additional part withdrawals each account year. If you use this facility no bonus will be paid, but you will still receive the basic rate of interest for that account year. An account year starts from the date of opening your account.
