In 2012, our members and colleagues voted the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as our Charity of the Year. And it's been the biggest, most exciting and most successful year in our history - raising an astounding £200,000 with the Come Rain or Shine national fundraising campaign.
From sponsored runs and mountain climbs to individual donations, the campaign was such a success because our members, colleagues and Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation all worked together.
And we're delighted to extend our partnership with the RNLI into 2013 for another year.
Chris Pilling, our Chief Executive, along with the rest of the general management team launched the Come Rain or Shine campaign in style - by taking to a lifeboat moored in the grounds of our Bradford Head Office.
Raising as much money as possible using only a mobile phone and getting a soaking as staff paid to throw buckets of water over their bosses.
A series of fundraising events and activities at head offices and branches around the country.
Alongside their mission to 'save lives at sea', the RNLI also work inland. From the Loch Ness rescue boat in Scotland to the Tower of London crew on the Thames, they save the lives of others in difficult and often dangerous circumstances.
The RNLI train ordinary people to do extraordinary things - turning volunteers into lifesavers. On average, it costs £1,255 to train a volunteer crew-member and £500 to train a lifeguard, so our Come Rain or Shine campaign is more important than ever.
We'd love you to get involved and help us support the vital work of the RNLI. To find out what fundraising events are happening near you, just contact your local branch. Alternatively, you can make a donation to the Come Rain or Shine campaign.Make a donation
