The campaign was launched in June 2014 with the aim to raise £500,000 by December 2016, which equates to funding an hour of care by a Marie Curie Nurse for every hour of our fundraising campaign. We are delighted to have beaten this target more than a year in advance, thanks to the brilliant support received from our colleagues, members and the general public.
This was achieved through fundraising activities in our branches and agencies, colleagues taking part in various challenges such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and a very popular Marie Curie Bond. Our colleagues have also contributed over 5000 hours of volunteering time to Marie Curie to date.
Lola Rowe, a Marie Curie Hospice Nurse, who launched the campaign, has been very impressed with the level of support received:
Thank you to everybody who has contributed to the Hour of Need fundraising campaign for Marie Curie. It is an amazing amount of money that has been donated to date and is allowing myself and my colleagues to provide even more support to people in their hour of need.
Dr Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Marie Curie, thanked everyone for their support:
We’d like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to all the Yorkshire Building Society staff and customers who have supported the Hour of Need campaign so far and made it such an overwhelming success.
Every £20 raised funds one hour of Marie Curie nursing care. There are a variety of ways you can support us in helping people with terminal illnesses and their families:
Thank you for your support.
