How membership means more

When you open an account with us and become a savings or mortgage customer, you also become a member of one of the UK’s largest and strongest building societies.

We put our 3.1 million members, not external shareholders, at the heart of everything we do.

Our members make us...

With millions of members throughout the UK, giving back to the community comes naturally. Your support and goodwill helped us win ‘Business of the Year’ at the Third Sector Business Charity Awards 2016. Yet another way our members help us make a difference to those who need it most.

When you’re a member led organisation it’s important to keep in touch. That’s why we’ve introduced our Savings Pledges. Which means that if you register, anytime we launch a new product we’ll let you know, so you’ll never miss out again.

Being a member of a building society means better value for everyone.

Without external shareholders to pay dividends to, we can afford to give better rates to our savers. This gives us the advantage of being able to consistently pay a higher rate of interest than the rest of the market.

Between January and April 2016, our average savings rate was 1.42% versus 1.04% in the market. *Source: CACI Current and Savings Account Market Database.

We like that you make us work hard to gain your trust. So when you told us that you trusted us more than the high street banks, it meant a lot.

As we don't have external shareholders to satisfy, every penny we earn is given back to our members in better products, paying for the service we provide or is re-invested to build a stronger society for the future.

It's no surprise we’ve had more ‘best buy’ mortgages than any other lender in the last 12 months.
