Salary and Benefits
Your salary level is set in relation to your role, using the salary benchmarking process, and your performance in the role. Salaries are reviewed annually, and individuals may have salary increases at other times based on their development in the role. In addition, there's a long list of benefits available to you as a member of staff here at the Yorkshire Building Society:
Bonus Schemes
Most Head Office staff are eligible for a descretionary annual non-contractual Gainshare bonus. This is a variable payment which is dependent on how the Society performed during the previous year.
Branch Staff have their own sales bonus scheme, as do a number of other business areas.
Flexible Working
To help balance work and non-work commitments, a range of flexible working options may be available. These include part time working, job share, compressed working hours and career breaks. This is subject to the needs of the business and the agreement of appropriate managers.
Holidays
Full time employees are entitled to a minimum of 32 days, including bank and public holidays. This is worked out on a pro rata basis for part time employees.
BUPA Healthcare
Certain roles are eligible to receive BUPA healthcare, which provides benefits for medical treatment.
Concessionary Mortgage
A concessionary staff mortgage facility is available.
Staff Investment Account
Employees can open an investment and/or Cash Transactor account with a concessionary rate of interest.
Occupational Pension Scheme
We operate a ‘contracted-in' Money Purchase occupational scheme for all staff aged between 18 to 57. Members contributions are between 3% and 5%, with the employer contributions being 2.1% (admin costs) plus between 3% and 10% on an age-related sliding scale. This also carries life cover of four times pensionable salary.
Company Cars
Certain roles are eligible to receive a company car. Cars are allocated on a business need basis. If you’re eligible, you can either lease a vehicle or receive a cash allowance. For certain roles, a car cash allowance is paid as part of an overall benefits package, based upon market information.
Staff Association
Most staff are eligible to join the Yorkshire Independent Staff Association. This is the sole negotiating body representing the interests of our staff.
LifeWorks
This is a 24/7 confidential telephone advice and information service offered free of charge to employees and their immediate family. This is provided by an independent organisation.
Maternity Leave
Depending on length of service, all women are entitled to 52 weeks maternity leave.
Paternity Leave
All male employees are eligible to take paternity leave. This relates to both the birth of a child and legal adoption and, depending on length of service, can be for up to two weeks.
Adoption Leave
Everyone with 26 weeks service qualifies for adoption leave following a newly matched adoption. This can be up to 52 weeks.
Parental Leave
Mothers and Fathers are entitled to up to 13 weeks unpaid leave in respect of any individual child up to their fifth birthday or five years following the adoption of a child. Leave must be taken in blocks of one week, up to four weeks per year.
Special Leave
This can be granted in addition to your holiday leave. It can be requested to deal with a domestic emergency, sickness of a family member, traumatic domestic event, on compassionate grounds, to attend jury service or court, or to extend an annual holiday – or any other reason deemed appropriate. Special Leave is typically unpaid.
