Our story began in June 2019 with the re-branding from N&P Commercial Mortgages and this is when I joined the business.
Our commitment was that any change should be meaningful in terms of what we wanted to deliver to our broker partners, existing and new customers and our people. This wasn’t going to be a short-term change but the start of a long-term commitment to commercial finance in the UK.
Just before we annualised in 2020, our overall lending output was impacted by the Coronavirus lockdown, investor confidence, the ability to complete valuations and the economic impact on key sectors. Launching and building a new Commercial Mortgages business amid a pandemic has certainly been an interesting challenge! In particular, making the right decisions to simultaneously ensure we are doing a good job from a commercial, risk, customer, broker, colleague and balance sheet perspective.
However, our positive response to continue lending through the pandemic, supported by launching new products and a growing broker panel, enabled us to deliver increasing levels of mortgage completions. Along with establishing our three new regional offices, strengthening our Customer Due Diligence and Underwriting teams and the positive support for our portfolio proposition, we have created a strong platform on which to build success in 2021.
We started our journey as YBS Commercial Mortgages in June 2019 with 25 colleagues based in one office and 9 panel broker partner. This launch was the first step in our goal to provide a long-term stable lending option to more customers than ever before.
Bristol and Manchester regional offices open.
For the start of 2020 we doubled the size of our team, welcoming 15 new colleagues to take on roles in four newly created teams, dedicated to: Business Development, Products, Customer Due Diligence and MI & Systems.

With 2020 now a triumphant memory for us at YBS Commercial Mortgages, we’ve turned our full attention to achieving even more in 2021. The opportunities ahead for our business are vast. A key challenge will be ensuring we prioritise, finish what we start and therefore become the best Commercial Mortgage Lender in the UK for those brokers and borrowers who want a reliable partner with a long-term outlook.
