Society holds financial education event for children
6 June 2019
Colleagues at a Yorkshire Building Society branch in Leeds, West Yorkshire, held an event to help teach financial education to children, parents and grandparents over half-term.
The branch in Rothwell hosted the event from 10am – 2pm on Friday 31 May.
30 children participated in the Society’s Money Minds sessions delivered by colleagues and suitable for children aged 5 to 11 years old.
The event was also attended by Rothwell councillor Stewart Golton.
Money Minds is a free financial education programme consisting of a series of activities and projects designed to promote discussion and share learning among children and young people of all ages and abilities.
Sarah Maisfield, branch manager at Yorkshire Building Society in Rothwell, said:
Learning how to effectively manage finances is a vital life skill. We really wanted to engage children and adults in the area to start conversations about money and the sessions on the day enabled them to test and expand their vocabulary and understanding of money through fun activities.
Children taking part received a goody bag to take away from the event to help them continue their learning at home. We’re committed to supporting our communities in teaching financial education and our Money Minds programme is helping to improve financial capability in the UK.
Any school or youth organisation can request free courses by visiting the Money Minds website.
