How does Yorkshire Building Society protect you?

When it comes to online banking security, we’re committed to helping to protect our customers. All of our web pages containing your personal information are encrypted – meaning that your information is disguised to help prevent unauthorised access. Not only that, but we have an experienced team of security experts who are regularly on hand checking that our site is as robust as it can be.

In our communications with you we will not ask for your whole password (unless you’re changing your password, which can only be done by logging into your account) and we may occasionally give you a ring to verify activity on your account.

To help reduce the chance of an unauthorised person accessing your account, you’ll be locked out after multiple failed attempts at logging in. If this happens, you can reset your password online or you can call us to reset your password over the phone. We’ll also log you out if you’ve been inactive for a period of time – just in case you step away from your computer for a while – so you’re not leaving your online account open and unattended for other people to access.

While we’ll do everything we can to help ensure your account is secure, there are a few things you can do, too. This includes:

  • Never revealing your password or giving out confidential information to any unauthorised party.
  • Making sure your computer has up-to-date security software and firewalls.
  • Logging out of your account once you’ve finished with any transactions.
