As you may be aware, funeral costs are rising which means prices for funeral plans are having to increase too. By applying before 15 December 2017, you can apply for a Prepaid Funeral Plan at the pre-rise price, saving up to £136.*

* Savings are based on the difference between the current plan prices - Amber £3,395, Pearl £3,749 and Diamond £3,999 - and the new prices - Amber £3,495, Pearl £3,875 and Diamond £4,135 - which will apply from December 15th 2017.

What is a Prepaid Funeral Plan?

A Prepaid Funeral Plan is a way of prepaying and prearranging your funeral. It fixes specified funeral costs at today’s prices. All three Prepaid Funeral Plans we offer guarantee that, when the time comes, all of the cremation funeral services included in the Plan will be covered, regardless of how much funeral costs may rise in the future. They also all guarantee that for a burial, funeral director services are covered, and a contribution of £1,200 is made towards burial costs.

What is included in your plan?

  • The funeral arrangements, including finding a funeral director, deciding on the details and dealing with the services covered in the plan
  • The services of a trusted and professional funeral director
  • The coffin, the hearse and, if selected, limousines
  • The Minister's fees
  • The cremation (for information on burials, see the burial section)
  • A customer service team available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Advice and bereavement counselling for loved ones
  • A 90 day cancellation period with full refund in case you change your mind during this period

What is not included in your plan

  • Embalming, burial plot, memorial or headstone
  • Minister’s/Officiant’s fee for a service at a different location before the cremation or burial
  • Flowers
  • Catering/wake
  • Fees of doctors or coroners
  • Repatriation from outside mainland Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Isle of Man and Isle of Wight
  • Costs for removing artificial limbs and mechanisms such as pacemakers
  • Costs associated with changes in regulations, tax, laws or generally accepted practice, which result in additional costs or affect the conduct of the funeral

This list is an example of only some of the services that are not included in our plans. Please note this list is not exhaustive.

Medical certification fees

For deaths where a coroner investigation is required, there are no medical certification fees. Also, changes to legislation in May 2015 mean there will no longer be a charge for a medical certification for any deaths registered in Scotland. Similar legal changes are being considered for the rest of the UK, so we do not include provision for these fees in our Plans. If the funeral takes place outside of Scotland, and a coroner is not involved, then if applicable, the medical certification fees must be paid by the next of kin or personal representative, when arranging the funeral.

Taking out a plan is simple and flexible

There is a choice of three funeral plans that all include a range of guaranteed funeral services. You can pay with a lump sum or spread the cost over 12 months at no extra charge, secure in the knowledge that you won’t have to make any future payments for the services in the plan.

A choice of cremation or burial


Each plan provides for a cremation funeral service and will cover the cost of the services shown in the table above.  No matter how much the cost of these services increase in the future, as long as the plan has been paid in full, there will be no more to pay for the services included.

A burial funeral is available in the plan, with funeral director costs being guaranteed in the same way as a cremation.

If a burial is required, the Cremation fee and Minister's or Officiant's fee are not covered by the plan. When a burial is chosen, cremation fees are not needed. However, Minster's or Officiant's fees may still be required to be paid. Dignity provide a contribution of £1,200 (rising with inflation) towards these fees and any other services provided by third parties. A contribution is made as burial costs vary widely across the country, so cannot be guaranteed in the same way as a cremation funeral.

Your money is in safe hands

Dignity places the money paid for their Prepaid Funeral Plan into the National Funeral Trust where the money required for the funeral is looked after carefully until it is needed. This independent Trust Fund is managed with the aim to ensure every Planholder’s money is properly protected. Every year the Trust Fund is audited. Dignity consistently publish an annual report on the Trust Fund available on request from Dignity.
