ISA FAQs

With an Individual Savings Account (ISA), you don’t pay tax on the interest you earn.

You can only open a Cash ISA with YBS, but there are four types of ISAs to choose from:

  • Cash ISAs
  • Stocks and Shares ISAs
  • Innovative Finance ISAs
  • Lifetime ISAs
In the 2024/25 tax year, you can open as many types of ISA as you like. There are four different types of ISA to choose from. You can only subscribe to one Cash ISA with us per tax year. You can subscribe to one Cash ISA with us and to others with different providers in the same tax year.
Each tax year you’re given an annual ISA allowance – this is the maximum amount you’re allowed to pay in. For the 2024/25 tax year it's £20,000. You can split your allowance across the different types of ISAs, but with us you can only pay into one Cash ISA using your ISA allowance.

All of our variable rate Cash ISAs are flexible. This means that you can withdraw money from your ISA account and pay it back in later, without affecting your annual ISA allowance – as long as it’s done in the same tax year.

There are a few reasons why you may not be able to pay into your ISA.

1. You've exceeded your ISA allowance for the current tax year.

2. You've paid into more than one ISA in the current tax year.

3. You didn't pay into your ISA during the previous tax year.

If this is the case, you will need to complete an ISA declaration form before you can add money to your account.

If you manage your account online, you can log in to your account to do this.

If you don't manage your account online, please complete the form on paper and send it in. You can find the form here: ISA Declaration Form.

If you have a passbook, send this in with your paper form.
