Be prepared for snow and cold weather, the freezing temperatures can damage your home
Leave your heating on and set your thermostat to a minimum of 10 C
Get your boiler and central heating serviced
Insulate your loft, pipes and water tanks
If you are affected by a frozen/burst pipes
Turn off the water at the mains
If it has caused severe water damage, turn off the electricity supply completely and leave the property until a qualified electrician can inspect the system
Do not touch the electricity supply if you are standing in water
Catch any dripping water in buckets, if your ceiling starts to bulge pierce some small holes to allow water to drain through – preventing further damage
If the ceiling bulges are significant please leave the property for your own safety
