Society supports charity helping bereaved youngsters
11 February 2019
An award-winning children’s charity which provides bereaved youngsters in Bedfordshire with vital mental health services has received a £1,200 donation to support its musical therapy programme.
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation made the donation to CHUMS to enable the Bedfordshire charity to buy musical equipment to help children who are too traumatised to talk about their experiences. Studies have shown that musical therapy can help with anxiety and depression as part of a wider treatment and support plan.
The charity supports children and young people between the ages of three and 18 who have lost someone close to them.
Colleagues from the Yorkshire’s agency in High Street, Flitwick, visited the charity to make the donation and learn more about its work with young people.
Agency proprietor Laura Clifton said:
Losing someone close to you is difficult, and can be particularly traumatic for young people.
CHUMS has made a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of children in the Bedfordshire area and we’re delighted to do anything we can to help support this important work.
Rapha Tagamori, Recreational Therapeutic Service Area Manager at CHUMS, said:/p>
Children experience loss and pain just as much as adults, but it can be difficult for them to express how they feel.
Research shows that musical therapy is effective in helping to treat anxiety and depression, and this can be especially important for children when they’re unable to talk about how they feel.
We’re really grateful to Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for this generous donation.
