Society launches new corporate responsibility report and vision

Yorkshire Building Society Group has outlined how it is making a lasting and positive impact on society in the first annual review of its corporate responsibility performance.
The Society Matters report demonstrates the organisation’s recent achievements and vision for the future aligned to the key themes of Community, Customers, People and the Environment.
Highlights reported by the UK’s second largest building society include a record number of colleague volunteering hours, with over 26,000 being donated to projects and charities in local communities across the UK in 2016.
The Group has reduced its carbon footprint 8% since 2012 and achieved CarbonNeutral® status.
It ended 2016 by achieving 2nd place in the Customer Trust rankings of all major banking services providers in the UK[i].

The importance of businesses and organisations embedding corporate responsibility is paramount in their role as responsible members of their communities. As a mutual organisation we have a rich heritage of making a positive difference to the communities where our members and colleagues live and work.
In recent years we have made significant progress on our corporate responsibility ambitions in many areas but we will not rest on our laurels as we know we can achieve more. That’s why we have developed a new corporate responsibility strategy, which we call Society Matters.
The Society Matters strategy was created following research conducted with key stakeholders of the Group including colleagues at all levels, customers, suppliers and journalists.
This research demonstrated that the key themes of Community, Customers, People and the Environment were important to all stakeholders.
Each area of the Society Matters strategy is managed by a member of the Group’s senior leadership team and led by our Chief Executive to form the Society Matters Committee.

As well as launching the new Society Matters strategy in this report, we’re also reporting on our performance to date. Our intention is that by formalising the Society Matters strategy we will accelerate our contributions towards creating lasting, positive impacts on society.
