The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

Your eligible deposits with Yorkshire Building Society are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit guarantee scheme.
This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: Yorkshire Building Society, Chelsea Building Society, Norwich & Peterborough Building Society and Egg. Offset deposits through our subsidiary Accord Mortgages Limited are held by Yorkshire Building Society on behalf of Accord. Any total deposits you hold above the £85,000 limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered.

How does it work?
YBS is a participant of the FSCS. The FSCS can pay compensation to depositors if a building society is not able to meet its financial obligations.
Eligible deposits are protected up to a total of £85,000.
This limit is the total that you are protected across all of our brands. The brands include:
- Yorkshire Building Society (YBS)
- Chelsea (CBS)
- Accord
- Egg
- Norwich & Peterborough (N&P)
For example, if you had:
- £50,000 in a YBS savings account
- £50,000 in a CBS savings account
- Total: £100,000
- £15,000 of your eligible deposits may not be protected by the FCSC scheme
The limit is per person. So, for a joint account held by two eligible depositors, the maximum amount that could be claimed is £170,000 (which is £85,000 each). This limit is across all of our brands.
