How we verify you online with HooYu
This page explains how Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) collects and uses your personal information when you’re opening a savings account. About HooYu
HooYu is our trusted security partner. HooYu quickly and safely verifies people using identity document authentication and facial biometrics. HooYu enables YBS to have your account up and running quickly. To find out more about HooYu, visit their website.HooYu uses a Transport Layer Security (TLS) encrypted connection to keep your data secure.
YBS will share your contact details with HooYu and they will share your identity verification information with us. HooYu will keep your data only for as long as needed for audit and records purposes. More details can be found in their privacy notice. Your most sensitive personal data (such as social profile information, identity document images, bank account information, address, date of birth) will be deleted within seven days of completing the verification.
Verifying your identity online
To get your account up and running for you as soon as possible, we'll ask you to upload documents as part of your application.
We’ll send you an e-mail at the end of your application, including a link to HooYu.
Important note: this is the only time we'll ask for personal information via email.

Make sure the documents you use match the information entered in your application. You’ll need a video recording device (mobile phone or web-camera) to complete the HooYu check.
If you don't have your documents with you, you can choose to do this later.

Why do I have to provide identity information?
Yorkshire Building Society, like all other UK financial institutions has a legal obligation to verify your identity to help keep you and your money safe from fraud and financial crime. We do our best to make the process as easy as possible.
What happens if I don’t want to provide this information online?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accept your application online. Instead, you can visit one of our branches to provide identification to open your account.
What happens if I don’t have the required identity information?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accept your application online, though you’re welcome to visit one of our branches to provide alternative identification to open your account.
