Helping Financial Wellbeing Happen
We want to offer real help with real life. Our goal is to help 500,000 people with their financial wellbeing.
That's why we created Money Minds, to teach young people about money and help get them ready for work.
Almost nine out of ten 11-18-year-olds in the UK have limited or no money management knowledge. Only 36% 11-18-year-olds in the UK have learnt about finances in school.[i]
About Money Minds
Money Minds was made to help young people learn about money and to get ready for a job in the future.
Since 2015, we have helped over 35,000 young people to gain money skills with our sessions in schools.
In 2022, we launched a website for Money Minds. This exciting step allows us to reach more young people across the UK.
Money Minds sessions in schools
Aimed at 5-19 year olds
We've given each of our YBS employees 31 hours paid leave every year to deliver Money Minds sessions in local schools.
Key Stage 1 and 2
Money habits can be formed by the age of 7. So learning about money from an early age is important.
We've made sessions to help young people plan for the future. The topics include:
- How to keep money safe
- Planning a party
- Learning to budget.

We delivered the Project Party session yesterday and it was fantastic! The kids loved it and we did too! The feedback from the teacher and the children was great. In fact the children said that “it was the best lesson they have ever had”. Will love to do more of these sessions for other age groups as well – Rehana Bashir, Customer Representative, Dewsbury Branch.

Some useful information for teachers on the classroom sessions
- Each Yorkshire Building Society volunteer will have completed Classroom Ethics and Safeguarding Awareness training. They will know the course and be ready to deliver this in the classroom.
- This activity will often be our volunteers' first classroom experience and so should be supported by the classroom teacher. All activities have been created to promote discussion and sharing among the class.
- Teachers remain responsible for the behaviour of the class during the session.
- Yorkshire Building Society operates a ‘safer recruitment policy’, but our volunteers won’t have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Volunteers within schools should be supervised at all times. Supervision is the school’s responsibility.
