Charitable Foundation donates more than £76,000 in second quarter funding
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £76,956 in the second quarter of 2021 as part of its support for charities across the UK.
The donations range between £250 to £2,000 and have been made to 52 charities across the country after they were nominated for funding by members and colleagues of Yorkshire Building Society.
One of the charities to receive funding was The Rotary Club of Horbury & Ossett Phoenix which received a £1,149 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase a community defibrillator after being nominated by a colleague from the Society’s office in Leeds for financial support.
Steve Brook, community lead for The Rotary Club of Horbury & Ossett Phoenix, said:
We are really grateful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation which will help us continue to provide our services. Of the sudden cardiac arrest deaths that occur each year 90-95% of victims die before they reach hospital. The defibrillator puts the heart back into a normal rhythm and if used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest survival rates jump from 5-10% to 74%, as every minute lost reduces the survival chances by 10%.
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.
To date in 2021 the Charitable Foundation has donated £127,030 to 92 registered charities around the UK.
