Yorkshire Building Society has been named Financial Services Company of the Year, at the National Centre for Diversity (NCFD) FREDIE Awards 2022 for the second year running.

The Society also moved up the rankings from No. 11 to No. 3 in the NCFD ‘Top 100 Most inclusive Companies’.

The awards highlight the excellent work organisations and those that work for them do to promote Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) at the highest level in workplaces across the UK.

Tracey Newton, director of colleague experience at Yorkshire Building Society, said:

I’m still having to pinch myself on our ranking. Top 10 was the ambition, top 5 feels like a dream. Thank you to our amazing Colleague Networks, and all of our colleagues and leaders right across Yorkshire Building Society, that have worked so hard to make this such a special place to work.

Our success is recognition of the magnificent work and conversations that have taken place over the last two years, supported by our fabulous Colleague Networks who have really made things happen.

Launched in 2021, our Networks are designed to amplify the voices of minority groups and provide a structured route to effect real change. We know our colleagues from under-represented groups want to be heard more often. They are looking to explore with one another and the business why their identity is important and our networks give them a space to do this.

The event showcases and honours companies as exemplars in promoting excellent EDI policies, and individuals who have been recognised for their contributions and commitment to improving practices and making working environments more inclusive.

Solat Chaudhry, CEO at the National Centre for Diversity, said:

Well done to everyone. It is so important to demonstrate the excellent work that all our winners tonight achieve in building positive communities to improve cultures and attitudes, ensuring fairness for all.

I am particularly proud that we celebrate excellent work across all sectors as these organisations are the future of the workplace in the UK.

We celebrate the exceptional work of people and organisations who have EDI running through their DNA. Let’s rejoice at this and build a better society. The outstanding companies that won tonight bring a sense of decency, stability, certainty, well-being, hope, optimism and resilience.
