Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £50,074 in the first quarter of 2021 as part of its support for charities across the UK.

The donations range between £250 to £2,000 and have been made to 40 charities across the country after they were nominated for funding by members and colleagues of Yorkshire Building Society.

One of the charities to receive funding was Henshaws Society for Blind People which received a £1,900 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues at the Society’s Harrogate branch for financial support.

Gemma Young, Yorkshire fundraising manager at Henshaws, said:

At Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate, students have their own personal aims which can range from being able to express their emotions to getting into paid work. Technology is built into each student’s learning and development, but they are restricted by the amount of equipment available. Thanks to this generous donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation this will be a fantastic help to support students learning and communication.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Gordon Rogers, Chair of Trustees for Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said:

The continued impact that coronavirus is having across the country including the charity sector is having significant detrimental challenges to their operations. With our quarterly funding we are aiming to help charities that support the ongoing needs of the most vulnerable people in our communities to continue to provide their services which can be a lifeline to many of their beneficiaries.

In 2020, the Charitable Foundation donated £419,915 to 359 registered charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
